2011 ODCA PRESIDENT - MICHELLE WEBER

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I would like to thank Linda House, Trevor Walker and the rest of the 2010 Board for all their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the past year. It is the dedication and efforts of this Board that will allow my job as 2011 President to be far more effective.

Many initiatives were started prior to 2011 that will continue to move forward:

- ODCA Scholarship for a local graduating high school student entering into a construction trade or program related to the construction industry

- Apprentice of the Year Award

- Web Site Upgrades

- Greater synchronization between the ODCA and other organizations and level of governments, such as Barrie Construction Association and municipal government level departments within our region

- Lobbying to make sure that local contractors are getting their fair share of opportunities for local work

- Backing initiatives for taxes that are not only fair but also make sense for future growth

- Working diligently with the City to promote Orillia and surrounding area

- To be recognized throughout our community by advertising through signage, trade directory, sponsorship, members and media venues

- Working with students at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School to build a gazebo or bunkie with the goal of proceeds going toward Soldier's Memorial Hospital Fundraising efforts to help build a stronger foundation of health within our community

- Dragon Boat Race Team- with pledges going to a local charity

- Continuing to work with GTA Construction Report to provide Association and member spotlights

- Participation in the Annual Home & Cottage Show promoting the ODCA and its members

ODCA events such as the Annual Golf Tournament, General Dinner Meetings, Trade Shows, Annual General meeting to name a few, provide a unique and fun opportunity for members to network. Our website, dinner meetings with guest speakers and newsletters offer valuable information related to all the events and programs offered to our members.

In the interest of business and community growth, the ODCA provides leadership and promotes partnerships.

In closing the ODCA Board is very excited about the future here in Orillia. The new Lakehead University campus, Rotary Place twin pad arena and sports complex, Orillia Fire Department, Orillia Public Library, Orillia OPP Detachment, are only the beginning of what makes Orillia a great place to grow, live and invest in.
