ODCA President's Message

I would like to thank Linda House, Shawn Nugent and the rest of the 2009 Board for all of their hard work throughout the past year. It is this dedication and effort that will allow my job as 2010 President to be far more effective.

Many initiatives were started prior to 2010 that will be moving forward even further. Such as the ODCA Scholarship for students entering the trades, Apprentice of the Year award and Web site upgrades with the ability to advertise your company. Some additional initiatives we are working on for 2010 are:

· A greater synchronization between the ODCA and other organizations and levels of government, such as the Barrie Construction Association and the different municipal departments within our region

· Bringing together the Patrick Fogarty Bunkie Build and the Soldiers Memorial Hospital Fundraising efforts to help build a stronger foundation of health within our community

· Teaming up with The City of Orillia to promote and advance the Hwy 11 facade project that will greatly enhance Orillia's presence to the millions of vehicles that pass by our doorstep each year

· Lobbying to make sure that local contractors are getting their fair share of opportunities for local work

· Backing initiatives for taxes that are not only fair but also makes sense for future growth

We are also looking for ideas where the ODCA can bring awareness to help build bridges for more businesses to succeed in the Orillia area and we welcome any input that the general community or members within the organization may have.

In closing, I would like to take the opportunity to say that I am humbled by the opportunity to lend a helping hand within my community. The ODCA has come a long way over the past few years and is now respected more than ever within the municipal levels. We have a strong voice and an open ear. As part of this association, you can be assured that we are moving forward with the best interests of everyone involved.

Sincerely,

Trevor Walker
